Volunteer with JIAS Toronto!
We thank our many volunteers for doing their part to integrate newcomers and show them that Toronto is a warm, welcoming community. Here are some of the ways you can get involved:
Family-to-Family Your family will be matched with a newcomer family to help orient them to Toronto. This can mean inviting the family over for a meal, showing them some of Toronto's attractions, giving advice on day-to-day matters, having their kids over for a plyadate with your kids, or just calling every once in a while to say hello.
JumpStart Connect newcomers to the Canadian Labour Market by offering a volunteer, mentoring, or employment opportunity to a skilled, professional immigrant. Please see the JumpStart section of our website (click the JumpStart link to the left) for more information.
Conversation Cafe Volunteer at our Conversation Cafe program and have the opportunity to share experiences with newcomers while helping them to practice English in a warm, casual environment over a cup of coffee.
Telephone Language Companions Help a newcomer practice conversational skills and gain confidence in everyday spoken English by speaking on the phone together once or twice a week. All it takes is about 40 minutes of you time per week from the comfort of your own home!
Homework Club Volunteer to help newcomer students with English and other academic subjects one evening per week.
Welcome Baskets Put together baskets filled with small kitchen ahd home items to welcome a newcomer to their new home. This is a thoughtful gesture that lets newcomers know others are thinking of them.
