We’ve been helping welcome newcomers home for over 85 years.
JIAS
Canada was founded in 1922, to help settle and integrate tens of
thousands of Jewish immigrants from around the world into Canadian and
Jewish community life.
JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid
Services) Toronto - formerly a branch office and service arm of JIAS
Canada - has established itself as a not for profit corporation
dedicated to helping Jewish immigrants with resettlement in the Greater
Toronto Area. We strive to help these new Canadians to rebuild their
lives in a vibrant, dynamic place of safety.JIAS Toronto assists lawfully admitted immigrants and refugees in
meeting basic financial, social, legal and other requirements of
immigration. We work to advance the well-being of these new arrivals by
providing a full range of outreach, support, counseling, training and
referral resources , to help Jewish newcomers integrate into the Jewish
community of Greater Toronto and Canadian society at large.
JIAS
Toronto is committed to helping immigrants with resettlement and
integration within the context of a welcoming and inclusive community.
We believe new immigrants have the right to be well-served
by their new communities: to be welcomed and introduced to others; to
feel proud of their history, culture and achievements; to be treated
with dignity and respect; to be assisted towards self-reliance; and to
be provided with choices and opportunities.
We recognize
that newcomers enrich the very fabric of the communities they migrate
to and both the immigrant and host communities benefit from a
reciprocal relationship. We envision a continuum of services which
begins with a welcome “ home” type reception, moves to helping the
newcomer get on their feet and ends with opportunities for every new
immigrant to contribute to and participate in all aspects of Jewish
community life.
Our resources are far reaching, our mission clear and strong: We welcome, support and integrate immigrants today to build a strong Canada and a strong Jewish community of tomorrow.
